Thailand’s National Day – tradition, memory, and the future of relations with Poland

2026-01-14

The official reception marking Thailand’s National Day, hosted on 1 December 2025 by the Royal Thai Embassy in Warsaw, provided an opportunity to celebrate Thai national identity and to highlight the dynamic development of Polish–Thai relations.

Thailand’s National Day, traditionally observed on 5 December, commemorates the birthday of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great and is also celebrated in Thailand as Father’s Day. During the reception, particular emphasis was placed on the legacy of this remarkable monarch, whose 70-year reign was among the longest in world history. King Bhumibol is remembered by the Thai people as a sovereign deeply committed to improving the quality of life of his citizens, the initiator of thousands of development projects, and a staunch advocate of sustainable development.

This year’s celebrations also carried a reflective tone. With deep respect, Thailand’s Chargé d’Affaires in Poland, Nattapong Suwanpakdee, paid tribute to Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother, who for decades played a pivotal role in preserving cultural heritage, supporting rural development, and engaging in social and charitable work. Her contributions to the promotion of traditional crafts, environmental protection, and healthcare have ensured that she remains in the hearts of the Thai people as the “Mother of the Nation.”
