On November 12, in honour of the 68th National Day of Malaysia, His Excellency Dato’ Azri Mat Yacob hosted a ceremonial reception in Warsaw. The event gathered representatives from the diplomatic corps, government, business, and cultural sectors – friends and partners of Malaysia in Poland.
The celebration was more than a festive occasion; it was also an opportunity to highlight Malaysia’s growing role in Southeast Asia and the dynamic progress of bilateral relations with Poland.
In his remarks, H.E. Dato’ Azri Mat Yacob emphasized the long-standing cooperation between the two countries, recalling that diplomatic relations were established over half a century ago.
– Today’s ceremony is a testament to the enduring friendship between Malaysia and Poland, initiated in 1971 – he said. The year 2024 marked a significant milestone in this partnership, particularly through President Andrzej Duda’s visit to Kuala Lumpur – an event of both symbolic and practical importance that opened new areas of dialogue.
Economic exchange between Poland and Malaysia reached impressive levels in 2024. Trade increased by nearly 20%, placing Poland 8th among Malaysia’s trading partners in the European Union. Polish tourism to Malaysia also surged, with the number of visitors rising by more than 70%, making Poland one of the fastest-growing European markets. Supporting this growth are weekly charter flights from Warsaw to the island of Langkawi, launched to meet demand for exotic, safe, and attractive travel destinations.
