On 3 November, a special ceremony was held in the representative Senate Hall of the Kazimierzowski Palace at the University of Warsaw to mark the Warsaw celebrations of the opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) in Cairo.
The event was officially opened by His Excellency Ahmed Elansary, Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to Poland, and Professor Alojzy Z. Nowak, Rector of the University of Warsaw. The Ambassador welcomed the assembled guests with great emotion and pride, while the Rector highlighted the significance of the longstanding scientific and research collaboration between Poland and Egypt, particularly in the fields of archaeology and Egyptology.
In his address, H.E. the Ambassador of Egypt remarked:
– Three decades ago, the Grand Egyptian Museum was merely a dream – one that gradually took shape as a vision to present, indeed to tell, the story of Egyptian civilisation. Today, that dream has become a reality, and the vision has materialised into a tangible achievement – a concrete result of joint effort and genuine cooperation with our friends and partners from around the world in the protection of international cultural heritage, for which we are deeply grateful.
The Ambassador also emphasised the extraordinary scale and importance of the new museum:
– The Grand Egyptian Museum is the largest museum in the world – a masterpiece of modern architecture and engineering, strategically positioned as a bridge between the timeless pyramids of Giza and the capital, Cairo.
