A unique temporary exhibition entitled Beneath the Feet of the Gods – Greek Minerals from the Collection of Mariusz Oleszczuk has opened at the Geological Museum of the Polish Geological Institute – National Research Institute (PIG-PIB) in Warsaw.
The event, organised on the initiative of the PIG-PIB Director, Professor Krzysztof Szamałek, and Her Excellency the Ambassador of Greece to Poland, Ms Niki Kamby, became not only an encounter with the worlds of science and collecting, but also a symbolic journey to the cradle of European civilisation.
The exhibition is the result of the passion of Mariusz Oleszczuk – one of Poland’s most distinguished mineral collectors, who has been assembling exceptional specimens from the farthest corners of the globe for over thirty years. On this occasion, visitors have the opportunity to admire a carefully curated selection of minerals originating from various regions of Greece – a country whose geological wealth is inextricably linked with its history, mythology, and art.
The exhibition reveals the extraordinary mineral diversity of Hellas: from sparkling crystals and vividly coloured ore minerals to delicate structures formed over millennia under the influence of complex geological processes. Each specimen is not only a scientific object but also a work of nature – beautiful, unique, and carrying the story of the land from which it originates. It is here, “beneath the feet of the gods”, in landscapes known from the myths of Olympus, that the treasures now admired in Warsaw were created.
