Statehood Day of the Republic of Slovenia

On 22 June of this year, the Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia in Warsaw organised a reception on the occasion of Statehood Day of the Republic of Slovenia, which commemorates the date of 25 June 1991, when the Declaration on the Independence of Slovenia and the Basic Constitutional Act on the Autonomy and Independence of Slovenia were adopted. This year, Slovenia celebrated the 32nd anniversary of the proclamation of independence.

The reception opened with an address by the Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia, H.E. Mr Bojan Pograjc, who focused on presenting the good relations and development of bilateral cooperation between Slovenia and Poland. In addition, the Ambassador highlighted the steady increase in economic exchange between Poland and Slovenia. The guests then listened to a speech by the Political Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Poland, Ambassador Witold Sobkow.

The reception was attended by a number of representatives of the diplomatic corps and Polish government offices, including the Political Director mentioned  earlier, Ambassador Witold Sobkow from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland and Mr Paweł Czerwiński, Advisor to the President of the Republic of Poland and former Ambassador of the Republic of Poland to Slovenia.

The official part of the reception was highlighted by a concert performed by Slovenian artists: Tanja Zajc Zupan playing the zither – a traditional Slovenian folk instrument – and singers: Teja Saksida and Gregor Ravnik.

Tanja Zajc Zupan is one of Slovenia’s most popular and accomplished zither players. Last year, she celebrated the 30th anniversary of her stage career, which culminated in a concert performed with the Symphony Orchestra of Radio and Television of Slovenia in Slovenia’s largest auditorium, the Dom Cankara in Ljubljana. Teja Saksida is a singer and voice teacher, while Gregor Ravnik is a dentist by training and also an opera singer, who has received many prizes and awards at national and international vocal art competitions in his musical career. The artists presented popular Slovenian songs to the guests.
