Polish Roots in Misiones – A Tribute to the Settlers and Their Legacy

2025-07-23

On 9 June 2025, the Museum of Polish History hosted a remarkable conference titled ‘Polish Settlement in Misiones’, dedicated to the memory of Polish immigrants who settled in Argentina’s Misiones province over 125 years ago.

Organised by H.E. the Argentine Ambassador to Poland, Alicia Irene Falkowski, to mark the 30th anniversary of the National Congress of Argentina establishing Polish Settlers’ Day, the event brought together a diverse range of individuals and organisations.

Ambassador Falkowski opened the meeting with a moving introductory speech in which she paid tribute to the pioneering Polish families who arrived in Argentina in 1897.

Thanks to the first Polish families who settled in Misiones province in 1897, and to the National Congress of Argentina for establishing the Polish Settler’s Day in their honour 30 years ago, I have a wonderful opportunity today at the Museum of Polish History to pay tribute to them and, as the Argentinian Ambassador, to express my deepest gratitude for the work and cultural richness they brought to our country and society in such an exemplary way, with their characteristic nobility, honesty and diligence – said H.E. Ambassador Falkowski.
