Lithuania Day

On the occasion of the 771st anniversary of the coronation of King Mindaugas and the 20th anniversary of the Republic of Lithuania’s accession to the European Union and NATO, the Chargé d’Affaires of the Republic of Lithuania in Poland, Audronė Markevičienė, invited guests to the Polish Museum of History on 3 July to celebrate her country.

The Chargé d’Affaires of the Republic of Lithuania, Audronė Markevičienė, welcomed the guests with the following words:

I warmly welcome all friends of Lithuania here on the occasion of Statehood Day – the anniversary of the coronation of King Mindaugas, which we celebrate on 6 July. The history of Lithuanian statehood, which has lasted more than seven hundred and seventy years, has gone through many trials and has been violently interrupted on many occasions, but today we can be proud to be free and to cherish the traditions of our state together with our partners.

The Charge d’Affaires also stressed that Lithuania and Poland share a long history. On 1 July, Lithuania celebrated the 455th anniversary of the Union of Lublin, and a few days later a conference dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Friendly Relations and Good-Neighbourly Cooperation between Lithuania and Poland was held in the same building of the Polish Museum of History. During the conference, historians, politicians and witnesses of these events shared their reflections on the development of relations between our countries over the past thirty years. Building a common future between Poland and Lithuania to support Ukraine in its struggle against Russian aggression and to stand up for our fundamental values was also discussed.
