The commemoration began with the lighting of memorial candles, placed in a symbolic location to honour the victims, pay tribute to their suffering, and offer a symbol of hope for a future based on unity and reconciliation.
In his address, Ambassador Prof. Anastase Shyaka expressed gratitude for the continued remembrance of the victims and emphasised the global responsibility to prevent future atrocities.
– Let’s never forget that the cost of indifference is measured in human lives – he said. – The international community failed Rwanda in 1994. Today, we must do better. Memory is our moral obligation.
