On the occasion of the Kuwait’s 64th Independence Day and 34th Liberation Day, H.E. Saad Abdulaziz Almehaini, Ambassador of the State of Kuwait, hosted a reception.
Andrzej Szejna, Secretary of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was the guest of honour. Representatives of the Polish Sejm, the diplomatic corps, representatives of the business, academic and cultural circles associated with Kuwait attended.
The ceremony began with the singing of the national anthem of the State of Kuwait and the anthem of the Republic of Poland.
His Excellency Saad Abdulaziz Almehaini thanked the guests for attending the reception. He also mentioned the tradition of celebrating holidays in his country. February is the month of national holidays, anniversaries, festivals and cultural and musical events for the State of Kuwait. His Excellency expressed the hope that in the future, the guests of the reception would have the opportunity to visit the State of Kuwait during this period to celebrate important anniversaries together with its people.
Later in his speech, he referred to the diplomatic relations between the two nations, saying:
– It is with great pleasure that I stand before you today, representing my country and seeking to strengthen the ties that bind our two friendly nations. These relations, which date back more than 63 years, are the oldest of their kind among the countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council. They encompass various aspects of cooperation, which are further strengthened by the agreements and memoranda of understanding signed between our parties. In the context of this strong relationship, I am obliged to recall the esteemed role played by Poland during the Gulf War, when it participated with the forces of the international coalition in the defence of the State of Kuwait, restoring its international legitimacy in 1991. It was a day that the Kuwaitis will never forget, when friendly nations and the international community stood by their side and supported them.
In the final part of his speech, he highlighted the many similarities between the two countries and then went on to outline the opportunities that lie ahead.
– The State of Kuwait and the Republic of Poland can use their resources and energy for development and prosperity to serve the people of both nations. In the coming phase, we are aware of the importance of strengthening cooperation in the economic, technological, agricultural and military fields. It is our duty and responsibility to make these areas the focus of our cooperation. We are therefore seeking the support of officials in both countries to be able to achieve them. These are the goals that we will pursue during our tenure in the Republic.
After the speech, Kuwait’s Ambassador H.E. Saad Almehaini presented Andrzej Szejna, Secretary of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with a gift of a statue of a falcon. This is a beautiful gesture that underlines not only the symbolism, but also the deep cultural and historical ties between Poland and Kuwait. The falcon is part of the emblem of the State of Kuwait. For Arabs, the falcon symbolises wildness, intelligence, strength, and courage. It is a bird with sharp eyesight, quick movements and clear decisions. These are the characteristics of the sons of the desert. The State of Kuwait adopts the falcon as its emblem as part of the qualities of its citizens.
At the end of this special evening, His Excellency the Ambassador invited the guests to celebrate together and share the joy of Independence Day. In an atmosphere of warmth, guests had the opportunity to sample traditional Kuwaiti delicacies, which were a real treat for the palate. The magnificent floral decorations that adorned the hall provided the perfect backdrop for the entire event, lending a unique atmosphere to the gathering.
