Ground golf competition for the Mongolian Ambassador’s cup

2024-07-27

Ground golf is a Japanese-originated variant of golf that its promoters say anyone can play wherever they want. Instead of holes, players aim at special goals called tomari. In Poland, there are only a few clubs for lovers of the game. One of them is the Sports Club in Józefów.

In order to popularise the sport in our country, for the past two years the Mongolian Ambassador to Poland, H.E. Dorj Barkhasem, in cooperation with the Mayor of Józefów, has been organising competitions for the diplomatic corps. The first group to receive an invitation to the AMBASSADORS’ CUP-I was a group of Polish ambassadors. Another invitation was extended this year to the Association of Spouses of Heads of Diplomatic Missions in Poland.

I am delighted that my invitation was so enthusiastically accepted by SHOM members and that we were able to spend the day together. This day is special for me, as I am finishing my mission in Poland on 30 June. Today’s meeting is also an informal farewell to many Ambassadors with whom I have not only professional but also friendly relations – explained H.E. the Mongolian Ambassador during the meeting on 30 May, and added: – Poland is a second homeland for me. My daughter and grandchildren were born here. As a poet, a lot of my work was also about Poland, such as a poem about the Baltic Sea or about the rains in Warsaw. I will miss Poland. However, many fantastic memories will remain in my mind. I will certainly also support and initiate any contacts between our countries.

It is worth mentioning that H.E. the Ambassador is one of the few ambassadors who knows Poland, its history, traditions and culture very well. He is regarded as an outstanding expert on our country. For forty years he has been connected with Poland, to which he first came in 1980 to take part in an art competition in Chorzów. This is how his great adventure with Poland began. When asked about the achievements during his mission in Poland, he said: in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, we led to the official visit of President Andrzej Duda to Mongolia last April. I was also the initiator and co-organiser of many visits at the level of the leadership of the Polish Parliament and Senate, I supported foreign trade between Mongolia and Poland, which this year exceeded $100 million. I also initiated and organised more than 60 cultural and scientific events in Poland. I led the establishment of the Scientific Council and the Council of Creators and Travellers as the Ambassador to promote Mongolia in Poland.
