Global Check-in

2023-09-29

On 5 June, the first edition of the Global Check-In export conference organised by the Polish Chamber of Commerce took place at the Targowa Creative Centre in Warsaw. The conference was held under the patronage of the Ministry of Finance, the Polish Agency for Enterprise Development and the Polish Investment and Trade Agency. Amazon was the strategic patron of the event.

The theme of the conference was the challenges of the single European market within the European Union – the Single Market, export opportunities for Polish companies in the prism of new markets
in Africa and the G20 countries, export of capital goods and e-commerce in international terms.

The assembled guests were welcomed by Andrzej Arendarski, President of the Polish Chamber
of Commerce, Marek Kłoczko, President of KIG, and Mariusz Mielczarek, representing Amazon.

The discussion, focusing on the challenges of the Single Market, was attended by Amazon’s Director of EU Public Policy James Waterworth, H.E. Ambassador of the Kingdom of Sweden Stefan Gullgren and Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of Development and Technology Kamila Król.

The floor was then taken by H.E. US Ambassador Mark Brzezinski, who declared the United States’ full readiness to welcome Polish business.

The first part of the event closed with a presentation given by KIG chief economist Piotr Soroczyński
on Polish exports and their challenges.

The second part of the event focused on the US, Canada, India and the UK. Africa was the thematic focus of the next panel with representatives of the diplomatic corps, experts from bilateral chambers and prominent business practitioners. The event closed with a discussion led by Piotr Soroczyński
on the export of capital goods.

In accordance with the programme, the cross-border.pl portal was launched punctually at 15:00 – the first portal in Poland entirely devoted to the subject of international sales via the Internet. Karolina Opielewicz, Aleksandra Borycka, Anna Zacharjasz and Damian Wiszowaty presented the most important functionalities of the portal to the conference participants. It was emphasised that the portal contains a detailed catalogue of European marketplaces with a focus on different product categories, a directory of companies recommended as reliable B2B cooperation partners for companies starting out in the area of exporting via the Internet, many practical articles providing necessary and specialised knowledge, and an audit of readiness to start e-exporting.

The conference concluded with a keynote address by Benedikt Berlemann, Director, General Manager EU Marketplace Expansion at Amazon, who spoke, among other things, about the role of small and medium-sized enterprises in exporting and the development of the economy.

After the conference, the guests moved to the industrial patio of the Targowa Creative Centre to attend a networking afterparty.

Of note, the National Chamber of Commerce was among the world’s top forecasting firms honoured with the Focus Economics Analyst Forecast Awards 2022. The winning institutions include the world’s most renowned forecasting firms and international banks. In the edition for forecasts for 2022, the forecasts for three (out of five) economies – Belarus, Germany and Ukraine – submitted by the NMI were honoured. In the general classification of forecasts for these countries, the KIG won the honourable 2nd and 3rd place.
