Georgian Independence Day

2025-07-23

On May 19th, Georgian restaurant Rusiko in Warsaw celebrated Georgian Independence Day.

Guests arriving at the event were welcomed by HE Georgian Ambassador Diana Zhgenti, who said:

Thank you for joining us today to celebrate Georgian Independence Day – a day that reminds us not only of our past, but also of our future. Today we celebrate not only a date in the calendar, but also the spirit of a nation that refused to give up.

Georgia stands tall as a proud and independent country. We have regained our freedom, and we are determined to protect it – peacefully, patiently, but firmly. Being here in Poland – a country that understands both the cost of freedom and the importance of traditional European values – we feel among friends.

In her speech, HE Ambassador Diana Zhgenti also referred to the Russian occupation, saying:

We are not a big country in size, but we are a nation with rich history, big dreams and aspirations. And one of those aspirations is to firmly anchor Georgia in the Euro-Atlantic family, precisely because we share the traditional values on which Europe was founded on – freedom, democracy, and rule of law.

In the further part of her speech, H.E. Ambassador emphasized Georgia’s commitment to integration with the European Union, its growing economic and transport importance, tourist attractiveness and pride in its national identity and culture.
