This has never happened in Warsaw before. At the invitation of the Embassy of Peru, the Polish capital hosted dancers from the Cultural Association Identidad Peru Taller de Danzas from the city of Arequipa.
The guests attending the event were welcomed by the Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of Peru in Poland, Luis Gonzalo Cieza Palo, who said:
– Dear Ambassadors, Charges d’Affaires, members of the diplomatic corps, Peruvians living in Poland, our Polish and foreign friends. Peru is extremely proud of its dances, traditions and customs, which have formed over the centuries and through which our peoples from the three geographical zones: the coast, the mountains and the jungle, express their identity and reflect their way of life in the community, on holidays, at work or in personal relationships. They are a living reflection of a specific region or of the Peruvian people as a whole.
The Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of Peru then introduced the band:
– This evening, we will be able to enjoy dances among which some have been inscribed on the UNESCO list of Intangible Cultural Heritage, such as the WITITI dance from the Colca Valley in Arequipa, which was recognised and inscribed on the UNESCO list in 2015. It is a dance that refers to the period of early adulthood in humans and takes the form of a courtship ritual between young people.
