A concert full of sensual sounds

In the picturesque setting of the Palace on the Island in the Royal Lazienki Park, a unique concert was held on 22 May to celebrate the Day of Saints Cyril and Methodius, the Bulgarian alphabet, education and culture, as well as Slavic writing. The evening, organised by the Bulgarian Cultural Institute and the Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria in Poland, introduced the audience to a magical world of sounds that intermingled from various musical traditions.

The melodies of the “Wandering Songs” project resounded within the palace’s walls, with Mazovian mazurka’s triple meter meeting Bulgarian broken rhythms, providing the perfect backdrop for a celebration of Slavic culture and writing. Harsh Balkan chants were interspersed with passionate Greek cantilenas, and these in turn with oberek chants, creating an unforgettable musical collage.

Veronika Grozdew-Kolacinskaya’s voice transported listeners to distant corners of the Balkans, where tradition and modernity intertwine into one inseparable whole. She was accompanied by outstanding instrumentalists, including Marta Maślanka playing dulcimer and hoop drum, Dorota Blaszczyńska-Mogilska on violin, Aleksandra Demowska-Madejska on viola, Kacper Malisz on violin and baritone violin, Bart Pałyga on cello and gadulka, Wojciech Pulcyn on double bass and Wojciech Lubertowicz on frame drums, darbuka, duduk and ney.
