On 2 June, in the prestigious setting of the Warsaw University of Technology, His Excellency Luca Franchetti Pardo, Ambassador of the Italian Republic in Warsaw, hosted an official reception to mark Italy’s National Day, commemorating the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Italian Republic.
The event was attended by representatives of the diplomatic corps, public administration, business, academia, and the Italian community in Poland, who together celebrated the anniversary of a state whose foundations remain democracy, freedom, and European solidarity.
The Feast of the Republic and Values
2 June is a special date for Italy. It was on this day in 1946, in a historic referendum, that its citizens chose to establish a republic. It marked a turning point not only for Italian statehood but also for civil society – for the first time in the country’s history, women took part in the vote on an equal footing with men, helping to decide the future of the nation.
This legacy was invoked by His Excellency Luca Franchetti Pardo, Ambassador of the Italian Republic to Poland, during the Warsaw celebrations. In his speech, he stressed that the values enshrined in the Constitution of the Italian Republic remain as relevant as ever and form a common foundation for European cooperation.
