What role does the Diplomatic Academy play in the MFA’s training and development system?
Iwona Woicka-Żuławska: The Diplomatic Academy is the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ training and educational centre. It provides training for MFA employees and serves as the unit responsible for the education and professional development of staff. It prepares candidates for the foreign service and conducts training for current ministry employees. It also supports the recruitment process, organises diplomatic-consular exams and coordinates subject-specific, language, and pre-departure training. The Academy’s primary aim is to ensure a high level of diplomatic and administrative competence within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
How does the Diplomatic Academy support the professional development of employees already working at the MFA?
Iwona Woicka-Żuławska: The Academy also provides pre-departure training for staff heading to foreign missions. In addition, it offers courses in public administration and administrative competencies, which are essential for both civil and foreign service members. In this way, the Academy plays a key role in the ongoing upskilling and professionalisation of MFA staff.
Marcin Tatarzyński: Moreover, for staff already working at the MFA, we’ve developed a pathway enabling them to take the diplomatic-consular exam and become career diplomats. This is made possible through a seminar that allows them to supplement their theoretical knowledge, effectively prepare for the exam, and gain formal status as career diplomats – a step that opens further career development opportunities in the foreign service.
