This year’s Arabian Horse Day took place on 24 August 2025, with the European Prize race as the highlight of the program – one of the most prestigious and important events of the racing season.
Held annually at the Służewiec Racecourse, Arabian Horse Day is a celebration of Arabian horse racing that draws top stables, jockeys, and enthusiasts from across Poland and abroad. This exceptional event combines thrilling competition, the elegance and nobility of Arabian horses, and the passion of those who raise and admire them. It serves as a platform for promoting Polish breeding, fostering community within the racing world, and strengthening international ties.
85 YEARS OF SŁUŻEWIEC RACECOURSE
On June 3, 2025, the Służewiec Racecourse marked its 85th anniversary – an institution deeply intertwined with Warsaw’s history and one that has witnessed the city’s and Europe’s most turbulent times.
Horse racing enjoys particular popularity in countries like the UK, France, and Australia, where events such as the Melbourne Cup are national holidays. In Poland, the first recorded horse race dates back to 1777, along a route from Ujazdów to Wola in what is now modern-day Warsaw. The race was a wager between Kazimierz Rzewuski and Sir Charles Whitworth, with Rzewuski’s mare La Bella taking the win – an event witnessed by King Stanisław August Poniatowski himself.
Warsaw’s first racecourse opened in 1841 on Nowowiejska Street. In 1887, a new track was built on Pole Mokotowskie, not far from today’s Unia Lubelska Square. As Warsaw expanded, the need for a modern racing venue led to the creation of the Służewiec Racecourse.
