On the occasion of the 46th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution in Iran, H.E. Ambassador Dr Hossein Gharibi hosted to a reception on 10 February this year.
His Excellency Dr Hossein Gharibi Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran welcomed the guests with the following words:
– Let me begin with a brief reference to the long and deep relationship between Iran and Poland – a relationship rooted in history and based on mutual respect, friendship and cooperation. This year, we are witnessing two important milestones in the history of Iran-Poland relations: first, the celebration of the 550th anniversary of diplomatic relations between our two nations (…). During this period, the two countries, as major regional powers, developed diplomatic and commercial relations reflecting shared cultural values and mutual interests. These historic interactions laid the foundations for trust and peaceful coexistence between our two peoples. The second milestone is the 100th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Friendship and Trade between our two countries. This treaty not only strengthened the legal framework of our bilateral relations, but also has become a symbol of our shared commitment to promote peace and cooperation in the region and the world.
Later in his speech, H.E. the Ambassador referred to a glorious chapter in the shared history of the Republic of Iran and Poland, when more than 100,000 Polish refugees arrived in Iran during the turmoil of World War II. – Iran has once again shown that friendship and humanity transcend borders. With open hearts and a spirit of hospitality, the Iranian people welcomed their Polish brothers and sisters. This act of kindness was not only a profound humanitarian gesture, but also a testimony to the enduring bond between our two peoples – said H.E. Dr Hossein Gharibi.
The Islamic Republic of Iran seeks to expand its multilateral interactions with international and regional organisations such as BRICS, Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, ECO and D-8 through an active, dynamic and influential foreign policy, H.E. the Ambassador said in a speech, and the Islamic Republic of Iran aims to build a strong and developed region based on its inherent capabilities and capacities.
His Excellency the Ambassador, who spoke speaking about his country’s vision, also referred to the situation in the Middle East. – More than seven decades have passed since the occupation and genocide of the Palestinian people. This tragic history, marked by violations of fundamental human rights, calls on all governments to take responsibility and commit to addressing these injustices – said H.E. Dr Hossein Gharibi.
H.E. Dr Hossein Gharibi devoted a significant part of his speech to discussing the diplomatic relations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Poland.
With regard to political relations, His Excellency pointed out that both countries are located in strategically important regions and play an important role as stabilising actors. He also mentioned that politically, the two nations have expanded cooperation based on mutual respect and shared principles, and that strengthening international institutions and promoting multilateralism are common foreign policy goals of both countries.
The Islamic Republic of Iran, similarly to Poland, is opposed to any change in geographical boundaries, which it considers contrary to the principles of the United Nations, and strongly condemns the massacre of defenceless people and crimes against humanity. His Excellency also mentioned the need to enhance multilateralism and respect for international law by strengthening international institutions.
Economically, Iran with its rich energy and natural resources and Poland with its technological and industrial competence, can complement each other, according to H.E. the Ambassador. Currently, countries such as China and India, which can see opportunities in Iran’s energy sector, are actively engaged in this huge market. He also expressed the hope that during the Polish Presidency, we will see further development of relations between the European Union and the Islamic Republic of Iran, particularly in the energy sector.
The shared characteristics of our peoples, including literature, art and architecture, provide a solid basis for further dialogue, said H.E. Dr Hossein Gharibi, and cultural initiatives such as musical performances, film screenings, joint exhibitions and academic exchanges have been valuable steps in strengthening these ties. Last year’s Nowruz celebrations and traditional music performances at Chopin University in Warsaw are examples of such programmes.
The event was attended by representatives of the diplomatic corps, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Polish Sejm, as well as representatives from the business, academic and cultural circles and the Iranian community.
A concert by an Iranian band added a unique artistic and cultural dimension to the event. Indeed, Iranian music is deeply linked to the history and traditions of Iran, and its stylistic diversity, from classical Persian music to contemporary sounds, introduced participants to the fascinating world of this culture, as did the excellent Iranian cuisine served at the end of the ceremony.
