The Secretary General of NATO Mark Rutte in Warsaw

Mark Rutte, the new secretary general of NATO, Mark Rutte, NATO’s new Secretary General, visited the Polish capital on November 13th. It was his first visit to Poland as NATO head. He met with Poland’s president, prime minister, defence minister and foreign minister.

Poland has an important contribution to make to the Alliance – the new NATO Secretary General said during a meeting with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk.
Upon taking office, the new NATO Secretary General made clear that his priorities would be to increase defence spending by member states and to continue to support Ukraine in its conflict with Russia.
Mark Rutte drew attention to Poland’s defence spending during his speech at the conference in Warsaw. – Poland is an example when it comes to defence spending. It is 4.7 per cent of GDP, and the minimum for NATO countries is 2 per cent – he said.
The Secretary General of NATO also expressed his appreciation for the expansion of Poland’s armed forces. – They are present in Latvia and Romania. They are taking part in missions in Kosovo and Iraq. Poland is hosting one of NATO’s battle groups, strengthening the defence of its eastern flank and, together with the other Baltic states, contributing to the strengthening of the defence of the entire eastern border. I express my appreciation in this regard – Mark Rutte said.
