America is not yet ready for a woman president. Europe, on the other hand, should be ready to count on itself for security.
This was a unique election. Even five months ago, it seemed to be the usual duel between a Democrat and a Republican. This time, it was also between an incumbent president and a candidate seeking to return to the White House. However, the situation changed in July when Joe Biden withdrew from the race after a failed televised debate. The Democrats put forward the candidacy of Kamala Harris. And from then on, it was a man versus woman race. As it turned out, it mattered.
Who lost: the Democrats or the woman?
Why isn’t America ready for a woman president? After all, it’s been 105 years since US citizens were granted the right to vote, and 59 years since women of all colours could vote. Eight years have passed since the defeat of Hillary Clinton, who, incidentally, was running against the same Donald Trump.
Many observers of the US political scene accused the Democrats of waiting too long to change their candidate. After all, with only four months to campaign, Harris faced a very difficult task. Would the result have been different if the Democrats had run a man?
