Mongolia celebrates

2024-07-27

On 28 June, a reception was held in Warsaw to mark Mongolia’s National Day, Naadam: the celebration of the 2233rd Anniversary of Mongolian Statehood, as well as the 818th Anniversary of the Great Mongolian State and the 103rd Anniversary of the People’s Revolution.

After welcoming the distinguished guests, H.E. Ambassador Dorj Barkhas introduced the gathering to the customs of the Mongolian Naadam festival. The Mongolian Naadam Festival is an expression of the proud history, wonderful culture and customs of the Mongolian people. Three types of men’s competitions are held during Naadam: wrestling, archery, and horse racing. A week before the official celebration of the festival, the Mongolian Embassy organised a festival open to all interested parties in the Powsin Culture Park, which was open to everyone interested in celebrating the festival and promoting Mongolian culture in Poland.

He then referred to the political developments taking place in his country, as it is on June 28th, the day of the reception, that parliamentary elections were held in Mongolia. In this regard, a few days ago, the Mongolian Embassy successfully organised elections for Mongolian citizens living in Poland in the new premises of the Mongolian Embassy in the Wilanów district of Warsaw.

His Excellency Dorj Barkhas added, I firmly believe that regardless of the election results, Mongolia will remain one of the most democratic countries in Asia, will continue to develop rapidly, and will expand friendly relations and cooperation with Poland.

He went on to inform the audience that after four years as Mongolia’s Ambassador to Poland, Ukraine, Lithuania and Latvia, he would be returning to his homeland permanently. During these four years of his mission in Poland, his main focus has been to expand and strengthen the relations between the two peoples and citizens, which, he added, is the cornerstone of the relations between the two countries.

His Excellency the Ambassador has been associated with Poland for 44 years. His first memories date back to a holiday he spent at a scout camp in Chorzów in 1980. He has dedicated 35 years of his life to the development of Mongolian-Polish relations, which have successfully developed in all areas, including the visit of the President of the Republic of Poland, Andrzej Duda, to Mongolia in 2023. Other high-level visits have also taken place. The Ambassador has also initiated many other diplomatic and cultural events that testify to the close relations between the two countries. Two councils have been established under the Mongolian Ambassador to Poland: The Council of Scientists and The Council of Creators and Travellers. Two honorary consuls have also recently been appointed: one in Katowice and the other in Białystok.
