The 16th edition of the International Charity Bazaar, organized annually by the Association of Spouses of Heads of Diplomatic Missions (SHOM) in Warsaw, was held on Sunday, December 3, 2023 at the Torwar Central Sports Centre in Warsaw. The purpose of the initiative is to raise funds for organizations supporting those most in need. The honorary patronage of the event was assumed by the First Lady of the Republic of Poland, Agata Kornhauser-Duda.
On Sunday, the Warsaw Torwar hall was filled with a gallery of colours, exotic tastes, smells and music, and above all unique regional products from almost all over the world. This was all thanks to more than 50 embassies, which prepared their stands with national products. Original Christmas gifts for loved ones, such as handicrafts in the form of jewellery, scarves, bags, backpacks, scarves, national costumes, as well as artistic products, could be purchased at the 16th Christmas bazaar. SHOM-supported foundations also prepared a wide range of unique Christmas gifts. Handmade Christmas tree ornaments and beautifully decorated Christmas cards were available for purchase. All those unique items were made by the foundations’ charges – people with big hearts.
Booths with unique offerings of national dishes from different countries were very popular with the public. Visitors tasted the unique specialties on the spot, and some made purchases to be taken home.
A rich international art program was also a major attraction of the fair. A choir with an orchestra from the British School Warsaw, a choir from the Nazareth School, an ensemble of children from the French School, the PROMNI ensemble, a children’s choir from the Canadian School of Warsaw, and performers from Azerbaijan, Indonesia, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Rwanda, Ukraine, and Thailand performed folk dances and songs. Wojciech Dudkowski’s performance concluded the artistic part. The artists’ performances were very popular with the audience. Both on and off the stage there was a unique atmosphere full of joy, positive energy and sensitivity to others.
The fair was not only an opportunity to buy unusual gifts for Christmas or an opportunity to learn about the richness of cultures from the remotest corners of the world, but above all a mission to help those in need, which was emphasized in her speech by SHOM President Gulia Bongini Nacouzis, the Cypriot ambassador’s spouse. Like every year, all proceeds from the Christmas Charity Bazaar organized by SHOM will go to those most in need, feeding Polish charities caring for children, seniors, the sick and people with disabilities.
This year’s edition of the fair provided the organisers and its participants with a lot of joy. It may be confidentially stated that they were driven by sensitivity to other people whom fate has been less kind to. Helping not only brings satisfaction, but also changes the world for the better!
